Volunteer Teaching Assistant (Campus Life) in Zhanjiang China
You will be playing the role of teaching assistant inside a college. For this, you do not need to prepare a lot of teaching materials before hand, we prefer you to be spontaneous and creative throughout the day!
The students here are always keen to improve their English and welcome foreigners into their culture and to show you their way of life. You will regularly attend the classes and have maximum interaction with the students throughout the day. You will be able to spend your free time during the evenings and weekends with the friends you will make throughout your stay.
At the end of your program, you will receive a certificate highlighting your achievements during your English teaching program.
How does it work?
Each participant will have an English speaking language partner (or ‘buddy’) selected from Cunjin College students. This ‘buddy’ will be responsible for looking after the participant 24/7. Beyond the program, this is often a great chance to develop life-long friends.
How can you contribute?
You will not only participate in (English speaking) lectures – if you wish, you can deliver a lecture relevant to your own area of study or expertise.
- Learn how to make pottery/ Chinese traditional knitting
- Learn Taichi as a Chinese Martial Art.
- Learn how to make dumplings professionally
- And more!
Aims & Objectives

This will be your introduction day at the college. In the morning, you will be introduced to the college and you will be shown around. The afternoon will consist of you getting a feel of the classroom and determining your level of input regarding English teaching. This can range from being a classroom assistant to being the lead teacher of a class.
Tuesday to Friday
You will become fully involved with the regular activities at the college! Your schedule will look a lot like your buddy’s schedule.
On weekends you have the option to learn about how your students’ lives at home, and you may want to stay at your buddy’s home for the weekend. Or, you may choose to learn about Zhanjiang through a guided tour with your buddy! Otherwise your weekends are free time for yourself or any other activities you may enjoy.

China covers approximately 9.6 million square kilometers making it the 2nd largest country by land area. It is not only the country with the largest population in the world but it is also one of the largest economies laying claim to being the world’s largest exporter and 2nd largest importer of goods.
It is a country of incredible cultural history boasting one of the earliest ancient civilisations dating back to around 2800 BC. Its landscape is equally rich in diversity, ranging from its forest steppes, its deserts in the north and subtropical forests in the south to its 14,500km long stretch of Pacific Ocean coastline. All of this makes China an incredible and exciting place to be, both in what it has to offer today and the story of its past.
China has solidified itself as a contender for global recognition and as a tourist hotspot. We have a number of travel experiences in China from volunteering & gap year travel to Tours and Paid Teaching.
With an assortment of climates and social structures, it is near impossible to experience all of China in a gap year trip.
