Volunteer English Teaching in a College in Vietnam
You will be playing the role of a mentor at a school (Nursing and Business Administration being the main majors of this college). This is often in the form of re-enactments, real-life scenes and communication. Your advanced level English or Native Speaker level will be just what your peers need to move their language skills forward.
Each class runs a total of 2 hours and will be led by a head participant mentor (everyone will get a chance to lead the lesson). During each session, the lead mentor will spend 30 minutes at the beginning of every class reviewing old lessons and previewing the lesson of the day. Thereafter, students will be divided into small groups, whereby each participant will mentor 1 group.
In order for this to be successful, you will be required to prepare a teaching plan using the teaching manual provided in collaboration with other participants.
You will regularly attend the classes and have maximum interaction with the students throughout the day. You will be able to spend your free time during the evenings and weekends with the friends you make throughout your stay.
The students here are always keen to improve their English, and they welcome foreigners into their culture and are eager to show you their way of life! A perfect way to develop your teaching skills and form new friendships, the Campus Life Project offers you the opportunity to volunteer to teach English to students in your own age range.
Uniquely, this teaching role will allow you to form friendships with your students, especially considering the opportunities you will have to socialise with them during your free time. On completing the programme, you will receive a certificate as evidence of the work you have carried out, and the new skills you have developed.
Aims & Objectives
- Offer education in the tourism and leisure industry for Vietnamese students
- Make new friends and contacts in Vietnam

An introduction meeting will take place in the morning. During this time, you will be shown around the tourist college and introduced to the staff. After lunch, there follows a discussion to decide how much of an input you will have in teaching English. The options range from assisting the teacher to leading a class. You’ll also have a chance to get to know the classroom environment and find your way around.

Your teaching role will commence on Tuesday and continue throughout the week. A detailed schedule of your activities will be given to you at the project.

Vietnam is currently the world’s 13th most populous country and occupies 331,211 square kilometers. Today, although scarred by its past, Vietnam is a fast-growing economy helped by tourism that its interesting history and beautiful sights draw in.
One frequent thing to hear is that it has not yet been subjected to the western influence that Thailand and, to an extent, Cambodia have been. The Vietnamese still tend to prefer their traditional cuisine to the fast food chains that seem to be taking over the world.
Aside from the beautiful countryside of the north, rice fields and beaches, Vietnam is a country that is very much on the move. Roads are being upgraded, new hotels are opening everywhere and its cities are fastly developing.
If you are planning to work & travel in Vietnam there are a number of fulfilling opportunities available from volunteering with children to Hospital Out reach projects. As an experienced gap year travel company we have helped many people enjoy the delights of Vietnam during their gap year so if you are looking for an adventure in South East Asia you should add Vietnam to your shortlist. Few countries in the world can offer such a diverse range of culture, history, natural wonders and excitement.
Vietnam offers ravishing coastlines, emerald-green mountains and dynamic cities. The breathtaking National Parks continue to yield new species and are teaming with exotic wildlife.
